Andrew Dalrymple, Intern Counselor | 202-713-9697 andrew.fcwc@gmail.com
My approach to therapy centers on psychoeducation, collaboration, and a deep understanding of your personal history with mental health care. I believe that therapy works best when clients feel empowered and actively involved in the healing process. Together, we will explore how past experiences with mental health treatment, your relationships, and life transitions may have shaped your current understanding of yourself.
My work is informed by principles of decolonizing therapy. This means acknowledging how social, historical, and systemic forces—such as colonialism, racism, and migration—shape mental health, and centering your lived experience and cultural background in our work together. I practice through a trauma-informed and culturally responsive lens, with focus on supporting refugees, immigrants, and internally displaced persons. I recognize that experiences of displacement, migration, and systemic barriers can deeply affect mental health. I also support clients who are exploring or deconstructing religious trauma, helping them process difficult experiences with faith, identity, and belonging in a way that prioritizes autonomy and self-compassion.
I deeply value advocacy and social justice as part of my work as a counselor. Many mental health challenges are shaped by systemic inequities, and I am committed to supporting clients in navigating those realities both inside and outside of the office.
Above all, I aim to provide a safe, affirming environment where therapy is tailored to your needs, values, and goals. If you are unsure where to begin or how to make sense of your experiences, we can explore that together.
