MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN
Shannon Graves, M.A., LPC
One of the bravest choices you can make is the decision to understand your own story and make changes in your life that help you grow. I have found that bringing awareness to our patterns and tendencies is a huge piece of the puzzle and I would be happy to help you identify the narratives you want to rewrite. My experience has allowed me to work with a wide variety of therapeutic issues and I enjoy guiding individuals toward healing. My primary areas of expertise are working with the LGBTQ+ community, adults who live with both process and chemical addictions, anxiety, trauma, sex therapy, and family-of-origin and boundary-setting exploration.
I have a collaborative, inviting style and embrace a person-centered, trauma-informed approach to encourage personal growth, empowerment, and awareness. My approach integrates a range of modalities based on individual need, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness-based therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and interventions pulled from Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, EMDR, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). If you feel ready to embrace the challenge of improving your internal experience, I encourage you to take the next step and reach out to me. I would be honored to take this journey of growth with you and help you discover the tools you already have.
I have a Master’s Degree in Counseling with a concentration in psychological disorders and substance abuse from The George Washington University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Virginia and have been working as a therapist since 2017. I only work with adults over the age of 18 and have limited space for couples therapy.
I do not directly participate with insurance out of a desire to protect client confidentiality and remain clinically independent. However, I do support clients getting as much money back as possible so I provide monthly superbills for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
If you are active duty military or a veteran, please ask me about the special lower rates that I offer as an appreciation for your service.
I am best reached by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, but can also be reached by call/text at (703) 829-6418. I look forward to meeting you!
