MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN

Sarah Lau, Intern Counselor |Phone: 703-957-0775|Email: slau.fcwc@gmail.com

I'm Sarah Lau - a Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate student at William & Mary and an intern counselor at Falls Church Wellness Center. My life and work have taught me the value of meeting people exactly where they are - especially those feeling stuck, second-guessing themselves, or trying to untangle complicated relationship dynamics.

I'm trauma-informed and committed to creating an affirming, inclusive space for clients of all identities and backgrounds, including those in the queer community. My work often resonates with people navigating difficult interpersonal situations, identity shifts, and life transitions. I especially enjoy working with teens, young adults, and people in their 20s and 30s who are right in the middle of figuring out who they are and what they want.

My approach blends Internal Family Systems (IFS), attachment theory, narrative therapy, and mindfulness to help clients understand the different parts of themselves, see how their relationships shape them, and find new, empowering ways of living with more agency and authenticity.

When I'm not counseling, I study and teach traditional Chinese kung fu and tai chi. In my practice, I've learned that progress often comes in small, deliberate steps - and that radical acceptance (along with a healthy dose of humor!) can transform the way we meet and move through life's challenges.

If you're ready to start untangling your story and building the next chapter, I offer free consultations to help you see if we're a good fit. You can reach me today at slau.fcwc@gmail.com or 703-957-0775.
